Nearly four years have passed since Beth Orton‘s last studio project, Weather Alive. This week fans will be treated to the “Stolen Car” singer’s long-awaited follow-up, The Ground Above.
Ahead of its release, Orton shared three ethereal tracks: “Otherside,” “Waiting,” and its title tune. If these records haven’t properly framed what you should expect from the forthcoming body of work, Partisan Records describes The Ground Above as Orton’s “most direct and unapologetic music to date.”
Self-produced and recorded over the span of a year, Orton went into The Ground Above, with a mission to be “urgent, raw, embodied, and emotionally fearless.”
For Orton, The Ground Above‘s ethos is aimed to “move between subconscious expression and expansive, timeless song craft.”
The Ground Above collaborators include musicians multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, Vernon Spring’s Sam Beste; drummers Chris Vatalaro (Antibalas, Radiohead) and Vishal Nayak (Nick Hakim), trumpeter Christos Styliandes, and bassist Tom Herbert.
