Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or…
It’s one thing to have talents, but it’s another to believe in and use them. Ashlie Victoria’s family discovered her musical abilities at the tender age of five. Singer/Songwriter & performer, this self proclaimed “Alien Princess” is an Unsigned Artist, that has currently landed her spaceship in South Florida. When she turned six, she ask my mother to sign her up for vocal lessons and continued with them for seven years. Ashlie knew from very young that having raw talent is great but having developed talents is better. Shortly after beginning classical vocal lessons, she began dancing ballet. Which she did, for eleven years. Ashlie Victoria, always wanted to be a recording artist. She wants to be legendary, something historical.
I recently caught up with the Alien Princess to talk about her upcoming EP Venus and much more. Read the full interview below!
In Kendrick Lamar new single “King Kunta” he rants about rappers that do not contribute to their music by way of writing. Often performers do not get enough credit for writing their own music, would you agree? If so, why do you think that is?
Being a Singer/Songwriter I write all my own music. But in the future I wouldn’t be against getting a second perspective. I personally feel so much satisfaction when people tell me they love my music. Because the process it took me to write the song was heartfelt and personal.
When putting pen to pad, what is your creative process?
I love writing. It’s almost therapeutic for me. So usually I go through my playlist of beats and when one sticks, I begin to write. I have to have some type of faint noise in the background, whether it’s the tv or a radio Lol Not to loud but not to quiet. First I record several different melodies, usually just in my voice memos. Then I begin adding words. From there everything just flows.
Your new single “Set It Off” is burning up on iTunes and SoundCloud. What was the inspiration behind the track?
I’m so glad everyone likes that song. It took me a while to write it. Early last year I came up with the hook “The way you got your hands around my waist, boy you about to set off something”. But I had no beat to go with it. And for months I was looking for a beat. And then one day one of my producer friends sent me the beat. And as soon as I listened to it, I knew it was the one. And from there everything just came together!
Let’s talk about your upcoming project, Venus. What was the inspiration going into the project?
Yes! My up coming project Venus will be dropping August 11th on iTunes and on my Sound Cloud. Venus is like my coming out project. I wanted to step my foot into the industry with something I felt represented me as an artist. The story behind the name Venus is actually simple. Venus is the Roman goddess of love, beauty, sex, prosperity and desire. And that’s what’s the songs in this project are about. The songs tell a story of love, passion and lust. As an R&B artist I wanted to write REAL old school R&B songs. R&B moves the soul, the heart & body. And Venus is going to pull out all these emotions.
Will there be any guest appearances on Venus? Guest production?
There aren’t to many features on this project. I wanted to show what I could do for this first collection of work. But on my first single “Grinding” which is also going to be on Venus, a South Florida rapper by the name of Vezz is featured. And I have a few samples from some very famous influential people and songs. A little surprise of the project!
What can fans expect visually for Venus? Is there a “Set It Off” video
in the makes?
I am super into visuals! So there will definitely be photo stories, short IG videos and music videos to go along with some of the songs for the project. As for a music video for “Set it off”, it’s a surprise ! Lol
As an artist you pay close attention to every detail in regards to your image. How would you describe your style?
Yes I do. Branding is a huge aspect of drawing in the attention of fans. People are attracted to what they see first. So colors and appeal is a huge thing. I’m still trying to hone in on my image but it’s getting there. I love high fashion and being trendy. I definitely like black, white and denim lol like I have so much black in my wardrobe. Haha
You’ve given yourself the nickname of Alien Princess on social media. Can you explain to new fans what that means?
Alien Princess is something that I started my freshman year of high school. Everything kind of just came together by its self. Being an Alien doesn’t necessarily mean coming from outer space. It’s more about being who YOU are. Not being afraid to stand out and up for the things your believe in. Thinking a living outside of the box. Just be and do you basically lol
How would you define your sound?
Hmmm, my sound lol that’s a hard question. I love R&B. I just like the way it makes you feel. But I can also write Pop music. I am still early in my career and I feel like I’m still finding my sound.
What does the future hold for Ashlie Victoria?
I am definitely working towards building my audience and expanding my self independently in the music industry. In the future I do want the backing of a major recording company. With hard work and time I believe many doors will open for me. I pride myself for being a hard worker. And hard work always pays off. I am actually moving from South Florida to Atlanta to expand my career and hopefully build more of a team.

Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or digital crate-digging for hours through my favorite digital streaming platform, finding indie artists is the name then telling their story is the game.
