Here Is Everything We Know About Joyce Wrice’s Album ‘MACHIKO’

Five years ago, Joyce Wrice released her critically acclaimed debut album, Overgrown. Since then, the “Break Me In” singer has built a robust fan based one collaboration (Free Nationals, Westside Gunn, Jordan Ward, Lucky Daye, Isaiah Falls) at a time.

Now, Wrice is ready to share her long-awaited Overgrown follow-up. This week, Wrice’s sophomore album MACHIKO will hit streaming platforms. The body of work’s lead singles, “Fly (Someone You Love),” “Crack The Code,” and “Break Me In,” demonstrates Wrice’s artistic growth and clear creative vision for MACHIKO.

In a statement provided to Rated R&B, Wrice characterized the forthcoming project as “a self-examination of the patterns.” Those patterns according to the singer include “the fear of being seen, and what love looks like when you stop protecting yourself.”

She went on to say, MACHIKO was built upon another core concept—the sensual, playful, and a little reckless flirting with risk instead of flinching from it.

As Wrice puts it: “I’m not heartbroken and jaded anymore. This era is about living fully, confidently, and fearlessly.”

Listeners should expect Wrice’s signature sultry R&B sound but this project is much more personal than it may seem. The album’s title, which is taken from the Japanese language translates to city girl, ties in Wrice’s heritage and self as it is her middle name.

But the album title’s deeper meaning, wish for boundless hope, cements Wrice’s mission of expansion in life, career, and love into music.

Supporting Tour

At this time, Joyce Wrice has not yet announced any performances to support MACHIKO’s release. However back in September, Wrice confirmed a tour was in the works.

“I am planning on going on tour but I need to know where to go,” said Wrice in a video upload.

Wrice concluded the message by asking supporters to suggest cities she should consider. Since the call for help, fans have flooded Wrice’s Laylo artist page with potential tour stops. So far, the list includes major cities across the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Once venues are locked in and dates have been confirmed, ENVERT will share that information for reader.
