Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or…
Mere weeks ahead of their self-titled debut album’s release, The Womack Sisters (Zeimani, BG, and Kucha) continue to establish themselves as soul’s most promising act. Today (July 8), the sibling group shared their latest single, “If I Let You” from the forthcoming body of work.
While The Womack Sisters have teased different tracks each night as the openers for Thee Sacred Souls’ Constellation Tour, “If I Let You” marks their first official release since hitting the road. Produced by and co-written with Bosco Mann, “If I Let You” expands The Womack Sisters’ exploration of soul music.
Featuring a steady percussion groove led by the güiro, a pronounced organ montuno arrangement, and The Womack Sisters’ sultry vocal layering, “If I Let You” is a robust gumbo of diasporic soul sounds. The song’s lyrical approach pulls at the heartstrings even further as the group lays out their terms and conditions for love.
“I read right through your chart and your angelic side / I L-O-V-E you, but I’m not quite agreeing with your devilish eyes / I ain’t saying you blew it / I’m just saying you knew it / And boy, you got to know when to get to it,” belts BG.
Like fresh-pressed silk, she effortlessly slides into the chorus with reassuring harmonies alongside Zeimani and Kucha.
“If I let you, you promise I’m your one and only / If I let you, never ever leave you lonely / If I let you hold me tight, give me a love that will never end,” sings the trio.
As “If I Let You” details, The Womack Sisters are more than willing to be smitten by romance’s intoxicating aroma, but silly, stupid, or cynical is just not an option.
In a statement shared with ENVERT, Kucha spoke about the group’s creative intention behind the record.
“This song reminds me of a time when I rushed into love because of attraction — not asking enough questions, not staying true to myself, selling myself short,” said Kucha. “For us, it’s a reminder to take your time to find love, and to find out who you’re really dealing with.”
