Back in 2021, Snail Mail shared her critically acclaimed sophomore studio album, Valentine. Now, five years removed from its release, Snail Mail is back with a new body of work. Later this month, Snail Mail’s long-anticipated follow-up, Ricochet, will be shared across digital streaming platforms.
In the time between albums, Snail Mail has, in her words, become “incisive introspection.” The album’s liner notes provided by Matador Records, Snail Mail said, writing Ricochet forced her to reckon with death and what happens after.
“Misery feels safe to write about because I am good at it,” said Snail Mail. “But I’m not bathing in my own agony anymore.”
Ricochet is described as: “[What happens when you] feel the pain of everything, and then nothing is a lonesome contradiction. […] A record about being caught in this whirlpool, but Jordan’s music has never been so transcendent. An album about realizing—and accepting—that the world still turns no matter what is going on in your tiny life.”
Ricochet features collaborations with Momma’s producer and bassist Aron Kobayashi Ritch.
In a statement, Snail Mail raved about working with Ritch.
“I felt like an equal voice,” said Snail Mail. “He was as interested in my decisions as I was in his.”
