Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or…
Two decades ago, Mýa boldly professed to the world that her love was like woah. At the time, listeners leaned into the steamy record, panting at the sexually provocative nature of the tune.
Today (January 30), the Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer expanded upon her definition of ‘woah.’ On Mýa’s new single, “ASAP,” which was co-produced with Lamar “MyGuyMars” Edwards, she outlines that her love is also attentive, nurturing, and honest.
In a music landscape where there are soundtracks for pursuing love and making love, “ASAP” is the sole sultry offering that provides instruction on how to sustain, maintain, and elevate it once in your grasp.
“You know, we’ve come too far to throw it all away / Just talk to me, baby / We gotta have this conversation / The only problem is communicatin’ / If we don’t do this, then we might not make it / See, I want us to grow, ain’t tryin’ to be complacent / Oh why / So far apart in the same room / Eyes don’t lie, I know you feel it too,” sings Mýa.
Mýa’s lyrical urgency and unashamed heartfelt plea are the antidote to divisive red pill rhetoric plaguing relationships worldwide.
In a statement shared with ENVERT, Mýa raved about “ASAP” and the mission behind the record.
“This is for my core R&B fans who love feel-good music, with meaningful lyrics that hit the soul,” said Mýa. “‘ASAP’ highlights one reaching a crossroad and choosing clarity by being honest about your wants and needs in times of uncertainty, without fear or hesitation.”
“ASAP” appears to mark the beginning of a new creative era for Mýa. Fans hope that at the end of the road is a new body of work from Mýa.
