KIRBY’s Performance Of ‘Jump The Broom’ On ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ Is Strictly For All Radical Lovers

KIRBY’s new studio album, Miss Black America, serves as both a soul-filled love letter to the South and a stern examination of the mistreatment of its melanated residents. Across singles such as “The Man,” “Thick N Country,” and the project’s title track, KIRBY uses her sharp songwriting pen and sultry vocals to let outsiders into her complex thoughts on these cultural intersections.

Given the hotly contested views on dating, love is one of the most political topics discussed on Miss Black America. To back up her belief in the highly sought-after emotion, KIRBY stopped by The Kelly Clarkson Show to perform her dazzling track, “Jump The Broom.”

Combating injustice in any way requires an unshakable level of bravery. Although most would argue the contrary, serenading to love can also be considered a radical act. Backdropped by the American flag, KIRBY, alongside guitarist Steve Bethany, drummer Tre Deaton, bassist Striker, trombonist Suavo Jones, trumpeter DUBB, saxophonist Franko Coleman, McCoy as well as vocalist and Carla Marie Barnes, KIRBY’s stance is clear—despite the public’s divestment away from romantic relationships, love remains atop her wishlist.

“Folks will say its black and white / We go together wrong or right / Well I’ve had my doubts that’s true / But none of them compare to you / You opened my eyes / You healed my pride / I think its time to dive / Baby we could jump the broom / Wanna spend all of my nights with you,” sings KIRBY.
