Sydney Rose makes hushed, intimate folk-pop with a wistful and often melancholic air. The Georgia-born singer/songwriter began releasing music in the early 2020s when she was still a teenager, signing a major-label deal with Elektra for her 2023 debut album One Sided. Rose achieved breakout success when her single "We Hug Now" went viral on social media. It later appeared on her EP I Know What I Want, released by Mercury Records.
Rose grew up outside of Atlanta, Georgia and taught herself to play ukulele, piano, and guitar at a young age. While in high school, she began posting cover songs online and earned her first bit of viral success when her version of Sleeping at Last's "Turning Page" notched millions of streams. When she began releasing her own stripped-down acoustic songs in 2020, they recalled the vulnerable alt-folk of Phoebe Bridgers and even early Bon Iver. Over the next two years, Rose independently released singles before landing a deal with Elektra Records in 2022. At age 18, she made her full-length debut with 2023's One Sided. She was subsequently dropped from Elektra in 2024, though ironically, her greatest success came as an independent artist. The wistful "We Hug Now" was released in February 2025 and quickly became a hit on TikTok and other platforms, prompting a different major-label, Mercury, to offer her a contract. Her first release for the label was the EP I Know What I Want, which included "We Hug Now."
