Back in 2021, Japanese Breakfast released her Grammy Award-nominated album, Jubilee. Since then, the “Be Sweet” singer has had massive success in the literary world thanks to her New York Times bestselling memoir, Crying in H Mart. But Japanese Breakfast’s return to music is upon us.
With a new single, “Orlando In Love,” catching steam online, Japanese Breakfast announced her fourth studio album, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women). If you expect another bright record (as heard throughout Jubilee), abandon that notion now. As the body of the title suggests, it will take listeners on a gloomy exploration of deeply woven emotions.
In a statement, Japanese Breakfast opened up about the sonic inspiration behind For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) produced by Grammy winner Blake Mills.
“[For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)] is the result of an artistic statement of purpose: a mature, intricate, contemplative work that conjures the romantic thrill of a gothic novel,” read the statement.
