Grammy Award-winning emcee Lupe Fiasco considers himself to be the greatest rapper to ever touch a microphone. Based on his venture into higher education, the academic world seemingly agrees.
Recently, the “Drill Music in Zion” musician announced that his time as an educator is expanding. Over on Instagram, Lupe Fiasco revealed that he accepted at teaching position at Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute.
“Let’s hit the ground running in 2025,” he wrote. “Thrilled to share that I’ll be joining the faculty at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute in Fall 2025 as a Distinguished Visiting Professor, teaching Rap as part of the groundbreaking new 4-year Hip Hop Degree Program led by the visionary Professor Wendel Patrick.”
He went on to discuss his decision to join the program, writing: “The Peabody Institute is one of the oldest music conservatories in America. World-renowned for its rigorous training and for producing some of the world’s greatest musicians, and I’m honored to contribute to this legacy by doing what I love most, Rap.”
If you thought this momentous opportunity would pause his other educational obligations you’re wrong. Lupe closed his post with the note: “I’ll continue my teaching at MIT and pursuing my fellowship at Yale while advancing Rap studies and practice into the upper echelons of higher education at large.”
Congratulations are certainly in order for Professor Fiasco.
