It is rare that an artist will allow you to hear a part of the chorus before it comes up in the song. serpentwithfeet does this gracefully on his new single, “Fellowship.” Hearing an artist be so vulnerable from the start welcomes all listeners in. The track serves as the lead single off his forthcoming album, DEACON (via Secretly Canadian) set to be released in late March.
Auspicious songwriting between serpent, Sampha, and Lil Silva, the track is a true ballad of warmth. Lively drums paired with the soft and rippling melodic lead begs the layer of serpent’s voice to float naturally overtop.
With the lyrics, “I’m spending less time worrying and more time recounting the love,” the song meditates on the appreciation for companionship. It is something we all can do more often, but a song like “Fellowship” helps to acknowledge it.
