Seba Kaapstad - Konke
The newest album from Seba Kaapstad is called Konke, translating to “Everything” from Zulu. The album picks up where they left off from 2019’s MMG debut album, Thina. Ever evolving, the group has focused in on their sound, making Konke a smooth, cerebral & uplifting album. Featuring artists Quelle Chris, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Oddisee, Konke is what imagination sounds like. At the same time inventive & reverent. To stream visit Spotify, Tidal, Bandcamp, and iTunes.
CHAI - Donuts Mind If I Do
CHAI is a revolutionary four-piece, made up of miracle twins Mana and Kana, and the impeccable rhythm section of Yuuki and Yuna. Combining their powerhouse musical prowess Donuts Mind If I Do is a two-track showing of the band’s “pinkish punk” sensibilities. To stream visit Spotify, Tidal, Bandcamp, and iTunes.
Jack Name - Magic Touch
In a time rife with alienation, Magic Touch, the third album by Jack Name, offers the comfort of contact. With a body of work that ranges from catchy to cacophonous, Name has earned the reputation of a musician who’s difficult to define. Magic Touch reveals yet another side of Jack Name. While it’s every bit as intricate as his previous releases, 2014’s Light Show and 2015’s Weird Moons, here he’s done away with the dense production of his earlier work to make a record that feels stark, personal, and effortlessly natural. Pole - Fading
Pole is the project of ground-breaking electronic musician Stefan Betke. The new album Fading is the first since 2015’s Wald. As with every new Pole record, it’s part of a continued forward trajectory but it also connects to a pre-existing sonic framework. “Every Pole record connects to recordings that I've made before,” Betke says, “in order to stay in this kind of vertical development. The ideas from 1, 2, 3 [his groundbreaking first three albums] up to now are connected. I keep the interesting elements, languages, and vocabulary that I designed and add new elements.” To stream visit Spotify, Tidal, Bandcamp, and iTunes.
Smut - Power Fantasy
Coming in at just short of 10 minutes, Smut packs infectious hooks, off-kilter noise, and graceful builds in this immersive EP Power Fantasy. Opening track ‘Fan Age’ begins in a dreamscape of guitar chords as Roebuck sings of climbing the backs of giants. About a minute and a half in, Smut has their feet firmly planted as ‘Fan Age’ transforms into an infectious, self-assured anthem-- “I don’t feel bad, I hold no guilt.” To stream visit Spotify, Bandcamp, and iTunes.
