Los Angeles-based recording artist Amber Ryann continues to carve out a lane for herself in alternative music following the release of her debut EP A Call to a Friend. From breakout guest appearances and short social media covers, it’s clear Ryann understands what sound she brings to the table. Her latest single is perhaps her strongest showing to date.
Produced in collaboration with Zach Golden (Anthony Ramos, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Suboi), “In My Mind” is a teaser track that’s gloomy and dark yet danceable which in today’s music has been proven to be a formula for success (just recall back to the release of XO TOUR Llif3 by Lil Uzi Vert).
Ryann’s moody vocals fit snug into the song’s brash mixing of bass and strings serves as a cross between Billie Eilish’s emo-pop sound and Hayley Williams’ (Paramore) alternative rock signature.
I had a chance to ask Ryann about the inspiration behind the track to which she replied, “[In My Mind is about] dealing with inner demons and searching for peace of mind,” later adding, “in the search for truth, we can find ourselves traveling through dark places within ourselves that we never intended to find or create.”
