In the three years, alternative pop singer beccs has been on my radar, the Brooklyn-based songwriter has truly proven to be the genre’s breakout star. Outside of her awards which include the John Lennon Songwriter and network appearances on The BUILD Series’ original program The X Change Rate, beccs’ has consistently challenged herself to produce honest music tackling topics such as body image, mental health, suicide, and more. Her latest single, “Such A Love” is a raw example of her mission of artistic transparency.
Self-produced in quarantine by beccs and Godfrey Furchtgott then mixed by XL Recordings producer Alex Epton (Arca, FKA Twigs, Bjork), “Such A Love” explores the world’s fixation on vanity fueled behaviors that eventually determine a ranking or worth in a given society.
The at-times over-performed vocals give listeners a flash of a young Joni Mitchell and operatic arranged instrumentation heard in artists such as Adele‘s music perfectly complements the track’s emotion.
beccs took to her Facebook to share the creative origins of the track writing, “[Such a Love] was my reckoning with this grotesque culture that I partake in that encourages us to flaunt our every move.”
Adding, “[Such a Love] also gave me permission to imagine a lover who understands the weight of our survival, who puts aside their own agenda to volunteer their life purpose for the preservation of the land and the sea. I had no idea just how real this metaphor of heroism would become in our changing world.”
Take a listen for yourself!

Whether I'm popping in to an open mic night or digital crate-digging for hours through my favorite digital streaming platform, finding indie artists is the name then telling their story is the game.
