Mickey Avalon’s life story plays out like an episode of VH1′s ‘Behind The Music,” marred by personal tragedy, triumphs and immense pain. Avalon’s back-story begins on the streets of Hollywood, California. Raised by his heroin-addicted father, he began selling pot at a young age, a trade he acquired from his mother. In an attempt to clean up his act, Mickey converted to Orthodox Judaism in his late teens, an effort that didn’t last due to constant family tragedy, such as his father’s death in a tragic drunk driving accident. By his early 20s, Mickey had married, had a daughter, and moved out of California, relocating to Portland, Oregon. The serine surroundings of the Pacific Northwest couldn’t hide Mickey from his past for long, as his drug addled Hollywood lifestyle caught up with him in the form of an uncontrollable heroin addiction. As his life neared rock bottom, Mickey found himself broke, divorced, and turning to prostitution, just to support his smack habit. With a desire to once again get his life back on track, Avalon moved in with his sister, and the pair set out on the road to recovery. Tragedy struck again when his sister relapsed, and died from a heroin overdose. After the deaths of both his father and sister, Mickey decided that he wanted more out of life, moved back to Los Angeles, and chose to make one final attempt to clean up his act. Shortly after his return, Mickey was befriended by ex-MTV VJ Simon Rex (aka Dirt Nasty), who encouraged Avalon to pursue his passion of hip-hop and even collaborated with him on some tracks. At the time, Avalon was staying in a sober living facility and had a strict curfew, so Dirt Nasty began passing out Mickey’s demo at Hollywood clubs, which helped Mickey develop a following among fans of the Los Angeles nightclub scene. As Mickey’s popularity grew, he began to sell out clubs throughout California with his legendary live show. Soon after Interscope Records took notice of the guerilla promotions tactics and signed Avalon to the label in 2005. Through Interscope, Avalon released his now classic self-titled debut album, which showcased his unique rhyming style and indulgent lyrics. Inspired by his experiences on the streets with drugs and prostitution, the raw honesty of his songs immediately resonated with audiences. Fan favorites “Jane Fonda,” “Mr. Right” and “My Dick” quickly spread across the internet and mainstream radio, turning Mickey Avalon into a household name. Avalon quickly took to the road and was performing sold-out shows alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Travis Barker and DJ AM, Snoop Dogg, Stephen Marley and Slightly Stoopid. Mickey’s contagious demeanor and unique writing style has made him a hot commodity in the music industry as hip-hop artist Young Jeezy and producer Jermaine Dupri jumped at the chance to collaborate with him for a Boost Mobile commercial. Avalon then joined forces with rock acts the Happy Mondays, and Unwritten Law, with whom he co-wrote the radio hit “Shoulda Known Better”. His music has been featured in countless movies and television series including the HBO’s series Hung, the animated series American Dad, the Duke Nukem Forever video game, Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay and most recently in the trailers for the Cameron Diaz film “Bad Teacher.”

DOROTHY, like Blondie and DAUGHTRY before them, is a group, not a person. Nevertheless, it's clear that Dorothy Martin is the driving force of the Los Angeles-based quartet: she's not only the namesake, she's the singer and the star around which the other members rotate. Due to landing a contract with Jay-Z's Roc Nation, the modernized blues-rock group -- they split the difference between the Black Keys at their most electronica and the full-throated wail of Adele -- became a hot pick to click in the mid-2010s, with their 2015 digital EP serving as a teaser for their 2016 full-length ROCKISDEAD. The band continued to hone their sound on subsequent efforts like 2018's 28 Days in the Valley, 2022's transformative Gifts from the Holy Ghost, and 2025's inspirational The Way. DOROTHY was built around Dorothy Martin, a singer who was born in Budapest but raised in San Diego. As a child, she started singing early and eventually made her way to Los Angeles, where she eased her way into certain rock circles. She began working with guitarist Mark Jackson and producer Ian Scott in 2013, and soon formed DOROTHY with Martin, Jackson, bassist Gregg Cash, and drummer Zac Morris. The summer of 2014 brought the single "After Midnight," which quickly gained traction on social media, and an eponymous EP followed in the fall of 2014. The EP caught the attention of L.A. Weekly and Rolling Stone -- the latter named DOROTHY one of the 50 Best New Artists of 2014. All this chatter was enough to get the attention of Jay-Z's Roc Nation, and in the summer of 2015, the band signed to the imprint and set out on tour opening for Miguel. DOROTHY began working on a new album in late 2015, releasing the singles "Raise Hell," "Get Up," and "Missile" prior to the appearance of their full-length debut ROCKISDEAD in July of 2016. Early 2018 saw the release of the single "Who Do You Love" in anticipation of the arrival of the band's Stones-ian sophomore effort -- the Linda Perry-produced 28 Days in the Valley -- which arrived later that March. Early 2021 saw the release of the EP Thrive in the Darkness, then, inspired by a period of personal upheaval that saw Martin experiencing a profound spiritual change, DOROTHY released Gifts from the Holy Ghost in 2022. The album preached positivity and resilience while maintaining the raw power and unfiltered rock & roll aesthetic of the band's previous efforts. In 2024, DOROTHY began a new album cycle with the release of the singles "Mud" and "The Devil I Know. Post-hardcore supergroup L.S. Dunes are known for their defiant and anthemic punk-infused sound. Building upon the members' previous work in bands like Circa Survive, My Chemical Romance, and Thursday, they released their debut album, Past Lives, in 2022. Deepening their sonic and emotional textures, they returned with 2025's Violet. Formed in 2020, L.S. Dunes features Circa Survive, Saosin, and the Sound of Animals Fighting vocalist Anthony Green, My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero, Coheed and Cambria guitarist Travis Stever, along with bassist Tim Payne and drummer Tucker Rule of Thursday. Initially, the idea for the band took root while Thursday bandmates Payne and Rule were rehearsing for a 2020 holiday livestream. In fact, they recorded numerous instrumental tracks before solidifying the lineup around Green, who had been looking to collaborate on a project. L.S. Dunes made their live debut at the September 2022 Riot Fest in Chicago's Douglass Park. More live shows followed, as did other singles like "2022," "Permanent Rebellion," and "Bombsquad," the latter of which was inspired by the events of the January 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol. In November 2022, they released their debut full-length, the Will Yip-produced Past Lives. It cracked the Billboard 200 and reached the Top Five of the U.K. rock and metal chart. Following headlining tours in the U.K. and the United States, they returned in 2023 with the non-album track, "Benadryl Subreddit." That same year, they released the demo collection Lost Songs: Lines and Shapes. A crashingly emotive single, "Fatal Deluxe," appeared in 2024 as the first track off the band's sophomore full-length, 2025's Violet. A spirited indie pop dance band with a reggae-pop past and a penchant for worldbeat and ska-infused arrangements that invoke names like Vampire Weekend, Brazilian Girls, Passion Pit, and Dirty Projectors, Brooklyn's Rubblebucket were formed in 2007 by musical couple Alex Toth (trumpet) and Kalmia Traver (vocals, saxophone) after the pair parted ways with East Coast roots reggae futurists John Brown's Body. They issued their debut album, Rose's Dream, under the Rubblebucket Orchestra moniker in 2008 and took to the road. The eponymous Rubblebucket followed in 2009, and found the band dropping the Orchestra part of their name, even as they grew in numbers. Full momentum was achieved in 2011 upon the release of their third long-player, the critically acclaimed Omega La La, which resulted in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and landed the song "Came Out of a Lady" in the indie comedy Drinking Buddies. Their 2012 and 2013 EPs, Oversaturated and Save Charlie, respectively, brought them more attention, culminating in the release of 2014's Communion Records-issued full-length Survival Sounds and Carousel Ride EP. In 2017 the band issued a new EP, If U C My Enemies, via their own label, So Sensation Records. New York’s Sarah Kinsley is fascinated by creating imaginary worlds and alternate realities. She tries to conjure these with her music, but it requires the unlocking of one’s imagination to really go there. Sarah encourages you to try it though. We all need an escape. Born in California, and raised in Connecticut and Singapore before returning to New York to attend Columbia University, this perfectly unusual left field pop singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist (Sarah plays the piano, synth, guitar, ondes mortenot, glass bowls, and some violin on her recent debut album Escaper) studied music and was creating much positive noise and conversation online long before she had signed a record deal. Everything she was putting out was home-spun; self-produced, self-written and self-performed. Sarah made a habit of documenting her process, and it was one such video, uploaded in response to the misconception that “Women don’t produce music” that documented Sarah recording the sounds of tapping on a desk, opening a door, switching on a light, thumping on a mattress and flicking a wine glass, splicing them all together and forming the introduction to a prior EP track, Over + Under, that captured the imagination of a young audience who have been feverishly following her every move since. Sarah grew up in the world of classical music, studying the likes of Chopin, Debussy, and Ravel. She started out behind the piano before playing violin in the perfectionas-necessity world of orchestra. Meanwhile, this disciplined student of music was a teenager falling in love with the exciting, “unsubstantial” pop music that dominated Top 200 radio. Debut LP Escaper in some ways marries many of those unlikely contexts—substantial pop that flowers with lush string arrangements. “I'm just such a sucker for massive, grand songs,” she says. “I think it’s the classical musician in me who loves symphonies and the magnum opus effect.” Named one of Vevo’s Artists to Watch in 2024, Sarah has met sold out audiences singing her songs in unison right across the US and Europe. There’s something very communal about the experiences that Sarah and her band manage to evoke. The young crowd is feverish, greeting each song like an old hit, and forgetting themselves for some time in her company, allowing Sarah to massage their imaginations. Support tours, headline tours, and early festival appearances – it’s as exciting to her fans in the UK and Europe as it is to those in the US. They’re turning up in their droves and travelling miles and miles (and miles) to see her.

“Life itself is a thunderstorm,” says Trevor Powers, the Idaho-based songwriter and producer behind the Youth Lagoon moniker. “Life itself is brothers on walkie-talkies… it’s your dog at the backdoor, or a speeding car off in the distance. It’s a gentle voice on the radio. Mom smoking on the porch. The color of sunlight. It’s always right under your nose and so easy to miss. Often, a simple treasure.” In the fall of 2023, that treasure came in the form of a shoebox filled with home videos Powers found in his parents’ basement while he was looking for a pre-war harmonica that once belonged to his grandma. “When I took the tapes home and popped in the first one, it was my brother Bobby and I at the state fair. I was 4 years old choking on a corn dog,” he laughs. “If anything’s a summary of life, that is.” Powers spent the following week recording his favorite moments off the TV — Easter egg hunts, backyard baseball, bloody noses, birthday parties, road trips, and all the life in-between. “I was like a ghost in a lost memory,” says Powers. The vivid intimacies of life and boyhood depicted in Powers’ home movies not only began shaping his songs, but infusing with them. He started sampling the audio and manipulating it into a kind of musical cinematography, fusing past with future. “What I was really consumed with was how much I could zoom in on my actual history,” says Powers. “I wanted to really make someone feel like they were inside my living room in 1993, but rearrange the furniture a bit. Something about combining that level of hyperreality with fairytales of devils and detectives weirdly felt like the truest way to immortalize these pieces of my family.” Rooted in love and childhood memoir, Rarely Do I Dream is a triumph of American gothic imagination — where storybook innocence dissolves into a radioactive billow of teenage drifters, drug-addled hustlers, and old-world folklore. Drifting between propulsive electronica and hallucinatory rock songs, Powers’ singular voice always glows front and center as the neon road sign pointing home. “The more I rewind the tapes of my life, the more I can hear the voice of my soul,” Powers says. “This isn’t nostalgia. Life’s much more messy than that. It’s a dedication to all the parts of who I was, who I am, and who I’m going to be.” With a bent toward rural noir, Powers has found a home in a world where his personal journals and poetic confessions are indistinguishable from the twisted mythologies of habitual sinners and devout barflies. “The summer taught me that life’s a baseball bat to the jaw,” Powers sings on “Gumshoe (Dracula From Arkansas)” — painted with western tremolo guitars, proto-ambient recordings of dogs barking, family talking, and a distorted drumbeat circling it all. On “Neighborhood Scene,” the album’s opening track and one Powers describes as “a postcard to everyone I’ve ever loved,” he turns a remote Idaho cul-de-sac into a land both eternal and sacred, inverting the privacy of home into an open invitation to sit down for dinner. “Do I, do I belong in a country house? Every angel and devil out marchin’ on the lawn. Do I, do I tell Tom that I saw his dad at the ‘No Romance’ bunny ranch? Cowgirl ain’t his mom,” he sings. “Speed Freak,” a dark joyride that showcases Youth Lagoon’s glaring metamorphosis, unleashes a grungy beat while synth bass struts and splinters into a technicolor post-punk spectacle. “This song came from a thought I had of giving the angel of death a hug,” Powers says. “We spend our whole lives running from this thing we can’t outrun. The more I’ve learned to die to myself, the more I’ve learned there is no death. Only transformation. A door opens when you learn to let go of the identity you’ve been building your whole life. Someone told me a couple years ago, ‘I have good news for you and I have bad news. The bad news is Trevor is doomed. There’s no hope for Trevor. The good news is — you’re not Trevor.’ When I heard that, it clicked.” After taking an eight-year hiatus away from Youth Lagoon, Powers returned to the alias with the acclaimed Heaven Is a Junkyard in early 2023, an album of warped Americana that brought his focus back home. Youth Lagoon’s first album in nearly a decade pushed the project into a neo-western realm both deeply literary and musically vast, centered around an upright piano and static-coated electronics. “I had ended Youth Lagoon years ago because I lost who I was,” Powers says. “Then life jumped me in an alley and gave me a beating. That suffering changed my frequency. Now my ideas are a river. I can’t keep up.” Delicate yet aggressive, innovative yet classic, Rarely Do I Dream is Youth Lagoon’s most comprehensive and audacious album to date. A treasure trove of home movies, twangy fuzz guitars, sun-bleached synths, classical pianos, blown-out drums, and Powers’ spellbinding melodies all feel like an old photograph that’s been reanimated in a strange and distant future. “This was the first time I’ve ever used guitar instead of piano as my main writing tool,” says Powers. “Anytime I’m horrified and on a knife-edge creatively I know I’m doing something right. I need that feeling of knowing I could either be making the greatest thing I’ve ever made or something so bad it could be career suicide. Anything short of that, I’ve failed myself. After the Heaven Is a Junkyard tour, I was fully in the moment and appreciated all of it… then I said to myself, ‘Ok, moving on.’ I have zero interest in repeating myself.” Powers’ ability to relentlessly push and evolve the project forward has taken Youth Lagoon into a territory both fiercely original and strikingly expansive. Recorded with co-producer and mixer/engineer Rodaidh McDonald, Rarely Do I Dream marks a seismic transformation, a mammoth leap forward, and an instant, indelible landmark in Youth Lagoon’s revered discography. With a profound love and dedication to family, along with his own brand of genre-bending noir rock, Powers’ has achieved what he set out to do. “I wanted to make an album that feels like life itself…” says Powers.
